Hey guys! I've been super busy since I last updated all of you on my crazy life. I ran my first half marathon, finished up freshman year, and did some amazing things over summer break! Running my first half marathon was a great experience, and I did end up running the whole entire way. It was back in April on a rainy day, which unfortunately led to some extreme chaffing(I have scars). I finished at 2:04:021. After that, it was time to finish up the last month of the school year, which was of course stressful. Don't worry guys, I clearly made it out just fine, but I won't bore you with details. Now we will move on to summer break!!! Probably the best summer break I've had since third grade. It started with traveling on down to Orange Beach, Alabama. My family spent a week down there with lots of fun activities such as parasailing, miniature golf, too much dessert, and sun bathing. Then on the way home we stopped in Nashville, Tennessee for some hot chicken and a little visit to where Taylor Swift was discovered(The Bluebird Cafe). The hot chicken about killed my stomach. Then I headed off to summer camp, in southern Illinois. I was a counselor in training or CIT, and it was the best experience of my life. I will be heading back next year as a staff member. Missed you all lots! Emily

This was a fun and simple final project with a chance to use new technology. I learned to edit with Final Cut Pro, and film with a tripod, camera, and microphone. It was more complicated than the mobile journalism unit because we had more equipment to use, and it required a partner we needed to plan with. My partner, Amanda, and I worked very well together, again. It wasn't hard to plan because of this. Overall, the project went smoothly, and I enjoyed it.

I wanted to let you in on a little about why I run, and why I continue to run. To be honest, when I first started out I ran for a program called Girls on the Run. I absolutely hated it the first year, and probably had an awful attitude about it, but I kept with it for my 4th and 5th grade. By the end of 5th grade I ran a 26:30 5K. When I started the program again in 6th grade, I struggled because I didn't know why I was running because I wasn't in the same shape I had been in. So I quit, and decided to not continue running for 7th and 8th grade. When summer came before this year I had to make the tough decision of whether or not to join cross country. If you've read my past blogs you know I did. I started out in May running again and it was tough, but slowly my confidence started to grow mentally. Throughout my runs with my mom, I always had to remind myself that I could be good and that this was just going to make me a stronger person mentally and physically. Then a stress fractured occurred, and I had to be in a boot for 4-6 weeks(not that I followed that...oops). It was sad, but it also made me realize how much I wanted to run. So I pushed on to do the elliptical, and core strengthening. I wasn't able to run my first race until October, and I was stunned with my results considering I was only able to run 10 miles each week. I went on to be a varsity alternate by the end of the season. Anyway, not that it's off season I have to find other ways to keep me motivated other than PR my race times. I tend to look at running inspiration quotes, and I will share one below with all of you! Comment below what you do to stay motivated for anything!! This project was my favorite one we've done in class so far because it felt professional, and I've never had the chance before to work with all the newscast equipment. Also, my partner and I got along really well, which helped because we were able to work efficiently without any arguments over our content. The challenging part was writing the newsbriefs because I had to really work on picking out big ideas rather than small ones that I would later expand on. I was excited and nervous when it came time to record because I was used to reading ahead when it came to reading aloud something, Overall, I think the project came out well, and I enjoyed doing it too.
