Interview Reflection

This particular section of the mobile journalism course in itunes U was probably more challenging, but helped me grow as a student. This was due to having to actually ask for help, which I often do not do because I find it a bit embarrassing to be struggling. Also, coming up with what to film for me was hard because I do not have a lot of access to things I enjoy doing. For example, my first idea was to film a pediatric doctor, but the problem was getting two subjects because of patient doctor confidentiality(I wouldn't have been able to film the doctor doing part of their job). Then, my second idea was to film my mom doing work as a social worker, but again the problem is she works with children, and provides confidentiality for what she does too. Finally, I decided to interview the Ladue Mens Cross Country Team. It was something I not only had access to, but knew a little bit about and was interested in, so I set out to figure out my subjects. I chose Assistant Coach, Mark Spewalk, and Junior runner, Aramis Rickey. Though, Aramis did not agree, so I changed subjects to another very compassionate runner, Clark Kittner. When it came to filming, parts of it were harder than others. For instance, the spaces where the boys often hang out together to talk, and do core workouts are small and not very suitable for filming. Another problem was filming them running because I couldn't go run with them on a trail to film them because I was not allowed to interfere with their actual practices. Other than that, it was a lot of fun, and it taught me a lot about how to talk to people during an interview, and on how to plan for an interview so you don't forget anything you need to film while you're there.
